Free Agency Update: Hamrlik Still Waiting

Per a report from J.F. Chaumont this evening, Roman Hamrlik has yet to receive a contract offer from Pierre Gauthier. While this is not necessarily surprising given the desire of the Canadiens to get younger on the back end, Hamrlik re-iterated his desire to stay in Montreal.

One of my favourite players since he was first signed, I'd like to hope that management won't let Hamrlik go because they feel "stuck" with Jaroslav Spacek's contract. Where there's a will, there's a way, and if it comes down to choosing between the two, they need to find a way to dump Jaro and keep Roman.

It is possible that Gauthier wants to explore other options on the UFA market as choices ahead of Hamrlik (even if he were to deal Spacek), which would be sensible. I just hope Hamrlik will still be available as a reliable fall-back if other plans don't come through.
