Habs sign Zack Fitzgerald to AHL Deal
The Hamilton Bulldogs today announced the signing of defenseman Zack Fitzgerald to a one-year contract.
Fitzgerald, 26, is a 6'1", 215 lbs d-man drafted in the 3rd round in 2003 by the St. Louis Blues. He has played only 1 NHL game (with the Vancouver Canucks in 2007-08) but brings a wealth of AHL experience, giving the Bulldogs a much-needed 7th member of their blueline corps. The 'Dogs D projects to something like the following:
Alex Henry - Rafael Diaz
Brendon Nash - Zack Fitzgerald
Frederic St-Denis - Jeff Woywitka
Mark Mitera, Joe Stejskal
Fitzgerald fills the role of team enforcer with forward Jimmy Bonneau not being retained by Hamilton. Last season with the AHL's Charlotte Checkers, Fitzgerald racked up 229 PIMs, down from 311 the year prior.
